The Polar A300 Fitness Tracker Product Overview

If you’re anything like me when I first started working out and losing weight, I needed a lot of help and guidance, as mentioned in a previous post.

I would have to say one key to my success in staying motivated with weight loss and performing cardio was a Polar fitness tracker.

I was introduced to a personal trainer who began to teach me about strength training and also gave me alternative foods to eat that would aid and sustain with my fat loss.

He also introduced me to a couple of different types of cardio and encouraged me to purchase a fitness tracker with a heart rate monitor to track my heart rate and calories burnt whilst training to motivate me I guess.

So If you’re just starting out and don’t know where to start either and are looking for a fitness tracker to motivate you, have a look at my review on polar fitness tracker.

What is a Fitness Tracker?

A fitness or activity tracker is simply a device or application that monitor’s and record a person’s fitness activity tracking things such as distance walked or run, calorie consumption in a day, and in some case’s heartbeat and quality of sleep.

The information from your fitness tracker is then synced to either a smartphone app or computer where you can see all your data and how you are tracking with your calories burnt, steps you have walked, and how your sleep was, and if you’re working out and have a heart rate monitor, can track your session that you just smashed out.

Features of the Polar A300

The A300 is great at a click of a button it shows your daily activity, it also shows your steps, distance and burned calories so far, and how much more is required to achieve your daily goal.

Heart rate sensor is sold separate so when paired up with Polar H10 heart rate sensor, this measures your every heartbeat and lets you know if you’re mostly burning fat or improving your fitness.

Polar prides itself in this technology stating it gives the most accurate calorie burn in heart rate based training.

Let’s you know exactly how many calories you’ve burned. This is done on an individual bases based on your data: weight, height, age, gender and the intensity of physical activity you do in a day.

The VO2 feature tells you exactly how your fitness level is progressing by measuring your aerobic fitness at rest heart rate evaluating your maximal oxygen uptake.

The A300 if you keep it on all night also tracks your sleep time and quality of sleep. With the data collected learn from your sleeping patterns in Polar Flow web service and app.

The interchangeable A300 colored wristbands are easily changed to reflect your style and mood.

Choose from either Powder White, Charcoal Black, Sorbet Pink, Mellow Yellow, Indigo Blue and Storm Grey.

This will remind and motivate you to remain active with a vibration alert to get you up and moving after sitting still for 55 minutes.

Polar has its own online capability which tracks and communicates with both iOS and Android devices where you can automatically upload your stats to the Polar Flow Site.

This allows you to store your daily activity stats as well as information on individual activities, giving you a complete picture of how effective and efficient you’re working out is.

MY Fitness Pal Syncing:

Recently Polar added within their Flow app the capability to automatically sync your stats with My Fitness Pal app, which is one of the most popular apps on the market for diet and exercise.

· Track many activities, swimming, cycling, strength training, walking

· Waterproof resistant

· Easy to navigate

· Bright blue back light

· Long battery life

· Changeable wristbands

· Tracks fitness via V02

· Polar Flow app

· Sync your stats with My Fitness Pal app

  • Appears clunky
  • No heart rate monitor provided is bought separately
  • Doesn’t connect to the net like a smart watch

Polar H10 Heart rate Monitor

So if you work out regularly and enjoy running then I would highly recommend purchasing a heart rate monitor being the Polar H10. As the A300 does not come with a heart rate monitor it will have to be bought separately.

When it comes to accuracy and tracking your fitness levels and knowing your resting heart rate, your max heart rate and fat burning zone, it’s well worth the money as this will give you the best indication of your progress and keeps you on track.

No matter what your fitness aspirations are or how much your budget is this entry level fitness tracker will definitely meet your needs and keep you on track with your fitness goals and keep you motivated at the same time, hope you enjoyed the review.

Thanks for the comments you left, this very amazing piece of fitness equipment has really motivated me to remain focused to lose body fat and also to go to a new level every time I train.
      Thanks again

  2. This seems like a must have for anybody who is trying to lose weight as well as to anybody who is exercising. Statistics might be boring but when you want to achieve or maintain something it is much easier when you can see the numbers. Price seems OK. Good review

    • Hi Alex,Everybody should have one of these and at the entry point level Polar has made it very affordable, it keeps me motivated and moving more through out the day.

  3. Nice review! Around a year ago, I had looked into the Polar watches more closely. They honestly had all the features I was looking for minus the clunkiness of the device. Even though I ended up purchasing a different fitness tracker, this one is solid in terms of quality in price.
    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments you left on my review, Polar has been around for a long time now and was probably one of the first company’s out their doing this. Thanks for sharing this review, that would be great.

  5. How does this compare to the FitBit? I’ve been using a fitbit for awhile now. I think one of the most challenging things with fitness trackers is remembering to put them on. I do like that the fitbit tracks my pulse and sleep, but I hate to remember to go online and check my progress.

    • Hi Melinda,
Polar has a great flow app that easily syncs your activity and once you get the hang of it just becomes second nature, also it depends on which fit bit you have as they scale up from entry level on wards, let me know if you would like me to do a comparison?

  6. Very thorough review – I know someone who would definitely be interested in this! May I suggest adding an image or two of the product so we can see what it looks like?

    • Hi Joy,

  8. Hi Charlie, What a lot of response to this wonderful device and your very well written information on it. Seems like a very good option. My only concern would be that it would be on permanent vibrate, reminding me to exercise. Thank you for this good advice. Best wishes, Jill

    • Hi Jill,
Thanks I know the feeling, if I am not careful I to can tend to sit down to much based on my current role, but the vibration mode is a great motivator that gets me moving around, I provided you a link that has more information on it should you consider looking more into buying one, hope this helps?

  9. Great review! I have been looking into purchasing a fitness tracker. I did have one question as I really want to track my heart rate as well. When you purchase the heart rate sensor separately, does it attach to the watch or is this a different piece altogether? Thanks so much for opening my eyes to this product. It sounds fabulous!

    • Hi Misty,
With this particular product it’s a separate item that you purchase it’s called a Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor and it goes around your Chest area and its one of the most accurate ways to track and measure your heart rate as appose to having it build in the watch and tracking your pulse on your wrist.
If you would like to have a look at it more in detail, I have provided a link, all you need to do is click on the link Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor at the top of the review and it will give you more info.
      Thanks again

  10. Hi Charlie, This sounds to be a very good gadget to have and would help to keep one motivated. The review you did was excellent and I wish you well with this venture. Best wishes, Jill

  11. I’ve been looking for a fitness tracker for awhile now to help keep me motivated. Thanks for the detailed review, I think the Polar H10 may be just what I’m looking for since I really want the heart rate monitor.

    • Hi the Polar H10 is one of the most accurate heart rate monitors out their at the moment and is more accurate then the one’s that are built into the watch and tracks you wrist pulse as appose to your heart, if you would like more information for the H10 I have provided a link on this review that will give you more information about it the link is Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor at the top of this review.
Please let me know if you would like more information?

  12. Hello Charlie,
I didn’t know that these modern trackers are so interconnected with various services. I use an older bike computer with chest strap to monitor my HR when doing cardio.
Regarding the heart rate monitor – I can understand that it’s not there as measuring it on wrist is not as precise as with the chest strap. But on the other side it would be nice to have this basic HR information. Thanks for the review.

    • Hi Marek,

Thanks for your comments, I understand what your saying, but I would still prefer to be accurate and the H10 is very affordable and can even hook up to your Go pro.
      Thanks again

  13. Fitness trackers are really big these days. I like this one because it has an inactivity alert on it which I think is very cool. Additionally, it seems to have a long battery life.

I am big on staying in shape especially after my retirement from the military. Going to the gym is definitely an option but I like variety in my fitness and this tracker can give me that. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Nate,
Thanks for your comments, its good that you like to stay in shape, this device really motivates me and keeps me on track and I love the fact that it lets me know how many calories I have burnt after a hard session at the gym.

  14. Wow – I think I might need one of these for each arm! I did not know this product existed and enjoyed your comprehensive review. Thanks!
